The Nativity
by C.S. Lewis
Among the oxen (like an ox I'm slow)
I see a glory in the stable grow
Which, with the ox's dullness might at length
Give me an ox's strength.
Among the asses (stubborn I as they)
I see my Savior where I looked for hay;
So may my beast like folly learn at least
The patience of a beast.
Among the sheep (I like a sheep have strayed)
I watch the manger where my Lord is laid;
Oh that my baaing nature would win thence
Some woolly innocence!
Among the oxen (like an ox I'm slow)
I see a glory in the stable grow
Which, with the ox's dullness might at length
Give me an ox's strength.
Among the asses (stubborn I as they)
I see my Savior where I looked for hay;
So may my beast like folly learn at least
The patience of a beast.
Among the sheep (I like a sheep have strayed)
I watch the manger where my Lord is laid;
Oh that my baaing nature would win thence
Some woolly innocence!
Thank you, Anita. Not a poem I knew before.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas Anita. Thanks for your interesting posts over the year. Beautiful poem from one of my favourite writers.
ReplyDeleteJo.
You're welcome, Jo and Anne.
ReplyDelete@Jo, Happy New Year too. I hope the transition to the UK has been a pleasant one?
Yes, good in lots of ways but Mark is still looking for work and that has been stressful.
ReplyDeleteOh no. I am sorry. Have you thought in terms of a business to keep you going meanwhile? An eBay business? For instance, things often sell on ebay at a fraction of their value, when auctions are badly described, end at awkward times, and can be resold. Selling books on Amazon? We've transitioned from a profession (Roy's) to self-employment at our own business, and so appreciate the flexibility, freedom and increased family time.
ReplyDeleteit does sound very appealing although I had not thought in that direction before. thanks for the suggestion.
